More About Crocker Highlands

Originally developed as Lakeshore Highlands in the early 1900’s, this neighborhood was described in the 1922 San Francisco Social Register as “a veritable fairyland of rolling hills and wooded dales right in the heart of Oakland near famous Lake Merritt”.

The original charm and bucolic atmosphere remain almost 100 years later. Tour Crocker Highlands real estate and you will see intimate and curving sidewalk lined streets with mature redwoods, sycamore and oak trees. Homes designed by Julia Morgan, Bernard Maybeck and William Schirmer can be found and showcase Italian Renaissance, Tudor, French Provincial and Colonial architectural styles.

The Grand/Lakeshore Avenue retail quadrant includes many well regarded restaurants such as Camino, Boot & Shoe Service, Shakewell and Michel. Safeway, Trader Joe’s and privately owned small grocers are within less than a mile. Shop at unique boutiques such as Urban Indigo, Maribel or Rose Quartz. A morning stroll to the Saturday Farmers Market for fresh produce gets your weekend off to a pleasant beginning. Then end your day with a movie at the historic Art Deco Grand Lake Theatre.

Crocker Highlands Schools & Community Events

Central to the neighborhood is Crocker Highlands Elementary School. Celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2015, this K-5 school has ranked as one of the top five elementary schools in the Oakland Unified School District for the Academic Performance Index (API) since the early 2000’s. You’ll feel a sense of family, warmth and community at the school. A back to school spaghetti feed, seasonal vocal concerts, auction and spring carnival all contribute to the building of a great neighborhood culture and network.

Dave lives in Crocker Highlands where his daughters attend the school. He believes in giving back to the community and is a platinum level auction sponsor as well as underwriter for the cost of the annual 5th grade Alliance Redwoods team building field trip. Dave also sponsors the spring carnival and participates as an active member of the Dad’s Club.
